Blaze Breaks Out at Barking Vehicle Repair Centre
A huge fire tore through a vehicle repair centre in Barking yesterday, sparking a massive emergency response. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters rushed to tackle the blaze at a commercial site on River Road.
Flames Destroy Vehicles and Scrap Metal
The fierce fire consumed several vehicles and about 50 tonnes of scrap metal. Fire crews acted fast to cool down a gas cylinder on site, preventing a possible explosion. Experts warn cylinders can explode under intense heat, making quick action crucial.
No Injuries but Smoke Blankets Neighbourhood
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the blaze. However, thick smoke filled the air, prompting authorities to tell local residents to keep windows and doors shut as a safety precaution.
Road Closed as Firefighters Battle Blaze
River Road remains shut while firefighters work to fully extinguish the fire. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received 14 calls about the incident. The fire, first reported at 12:54 PM, was brought under control by 2:42 PM. Crews from Plaistow, Dagenham, Millwall, and nearby stations joined the effort.
