Thousands Turn Out for Fort Amherst Wellbeing Festival

More than 2,000 locals flocked to Fort Amherst on Saturday, 27 August for the annual wellbeing festival. The free event offered a smorgasbord of health services, workshops, and live performances aimed at boosting community health and happiness.

Therapy Dogs Steal the Show

Community Policing Volunteer trainer PC Martyn Tulk was thrilled by the turnout. “This was a great event to be involved in,” he said. “Many people enjoyed meeting our therapy dog team while learning how these furry friends help tackle mental health issues and support vulnerable individuals.”

Therapy dogs are known to reduce stress and anxiety, offering comfort and connection during tough times. PC Tulk added, “Our dogs are calm, friendly, and affectionate. The Community Policing Volunteer Canine team volunteers their time to create positive interactions that benefit people both mentally and physically.”

Community Policing Volunteers Make a Difference

The festival was organised by The Paramount Foundation, dedicated to improving local wellbeing. Community Policing Volunteer Therapy Dogs also play a crucial role in Child Centred Policing, helping officers engage with children and young people, and spotting those in need of extra support.

These efforts help build trust between vulnerable groups and the police, making communities safer and stronger.
