Massive Blaze Tears Through Upper Norwood Flats in Early Morning Fire
Major Fire Erupts on Church Road
A huge fire broke out in a block of flats on Church Road, Upper Norwood, at around 3:30 AM today. The London Fire Brigade launched a full-scale response, scrambling eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to battle the blaze.
Rescue Drama as Fire Rages
The fire ripped through part of the building’s first floor. Firefighters rescued seven people trapped inside, using ladders to bring them to safety. All rescued individuals received on-site medical treatment from the London Ambulance Service.
One of the Brigade’s giant 32-metre turntable ladders was deployed, giving crews a crucial upper hand to douse the flames quickly and safely.
Fire Crews Race to the Scene
The first emergency call came through at 3:33 AM, instantly mobilising fire teams from West Norwood, Woodside, Norbury, and nearby stations. Control Officers coordinated the rapid deployment that contained the fire before it spread further.
