Flat Fire on Old Kent Road: Two Hospitalised as Firefighters Battle Blaze in Southwark
A serious fire broke out at a lower ground floor flat on Old Kent Road, Southwark, this morning, sparking a massive response from the London Fire Brigade.
Major Fire Response as Flames Engulf Flat
At 9:35am, six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were rushed to the scene after reports of a blaze consuming a residential property. Crews came from Old Kent Road, Dockhead, Dowgate, Whitechapel, and Lambeth stations to tackle the inferno.
Brave Rescue and Hospitalisations
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus heroically entered the burning flat. They rescued one man via an internal staircase, while another man had already escaped before they arrived. Both received treatment on-site by London Ambulance Service crews before being rushed to hospital. Their conditions remain unconfirmed.
Fire Brought Under Control, Investigation Underway
The blaze was extinguished by 10:26am. Sadly, the affected flat was completely destroyed. But swift action prevented the fire from spreading through the building.
The cause is currently being investigated and is believed to involve an electric bike.
Safety Warning from Fire Brigade
“This incident shows how quickly fires can spread and why it is so important to have working smoke alarms in your home. They provide vital early warning and can save lives,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
Residents nearby were warned to keep windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke during the emergency.
