Flybe Plane Makes Dramatic Emergency Landing at Belfast with Nose Gear Up

A Flybe Bombardier Dash 8 pulled off a nerve-wracking emergency landing at Belfast Airport early Friday after the front nose gear failed to deploy.

Two Hours Circling to Lose Weight

The aircraft, carrying up to 78 passengers, took off from Belfast International at 11.20am. Shortly after, the pilot spotted a problem with the nose gear and declared an emergency just after 12.30pm.

To reduce landing risks, the plane spent over two hours circling in the air, burning off fuel to lighten its weight before attempting the tricky touchdown.

Landed Nose-First, Runway Shut

At 1.43pm, the plane landed on the main runway without its front wheel. The runway 25 was immediately closed as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Thankfully, it’s currently unknown if anyone onboard was injured.
