France Hits Record 86,852 COVID Cases for Third Day Straight
France has smashed its COVID-19 record again, reporting 86,852 cases on Saturday – the highest daily figure for the third day running. Authorities warned numbers earlier in the week were accidentally under-reported, suggesting the true toll could be even worse.
France’s COVID Crisis Worsens
The total coronavirus count in France has surged past 1,748,705, placing the country fifth worldwide for infections. COVID-linked deaths have tragically topped 40,000, while hospitals are under strain with 27,660 patients currently admitted.
Scottish Ferry Halted After Crew Tests Positive
Meanwhile, a Scottish CalMac ferry is off the waves after three crew members tested positive for COVID-19. The MV Isle of Lewis was pulled back from Barra to Oban and is now undergoing a deep clean.
Operations director Robert Morrison said: “Three crew members from the Isle of Lewis have received positive tests for Covid-19. In line with strict procedures, the vessel was returned from Barra to Oban without passengers and will undergo a deep clean by a specialist company.”
A relief crew will be brought in to get the ferry back in service. Morrison added that CalMac crew work in strict bubbles to protect passengers and colleagues but urged anyone worried about symptoms to visit the NHS Inform website.
