Frank Williams, best known for playing the bumbling vicar Timothy Farthing in the 1970s hit comedy Dad’s Army, has passed away aged 90.
From Repertory Theatre to TV Fame
Born in 1931, Williams attended Ardingly College in West Sussex and Hendon School. He began his acting career in repertory theatre, notably at the Palace Theatre under the guidance of Jimmy Perry, the creator of Dad’s Army. This theatre was a breeding ground for many future stars like Michael Knowles, Colin Bean, Donald Hewlett, and Mavis Pugh.
