Passport Prices Set to Soar from February 2
Hold on to your wallets! From February 2, passport fees are climbing across the UK. Whether you’re applying for a shiny new passport or renewing an old one, expect to pay more.
Price Hikes: How Much More Will You Pay?
- Standard online adult applications jump from £75.50 to £82.50
- Children’s online passport fees rise from £49 to £53.50
- Postal adult applications shoot up from £85 to £93
- Postal children’s applications go up from £58.50 to £64
Why the Price Rise? Home Office Explains
The Home Office says the extra cash will improve passport services. This includes covering costs for lost or stolen passports and improving processing for Brits at UK borders.
“This will help the Home Office move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation,” revealed the government.
“The fees will also help cover costs of processing passport applications and consular assistance overseas.”
First Increase in Five Years, Parliament Keeps Watch
This is the first passport fee rise in five years. The Home Office confirms Parliament is scrutinising the new proposals to ensure fair play.
So, if you’ve got a passport application bubbling on the back burner, now’s the time to get it done before the price hike bites!
