Emergency teams scrambled to Tontine Street, Folkestone, today after a suspected gas leak sparked major concern. The incident forced a road closure lasting several hours and disrupted local travel.

Swift Response to Gas Smell Near Popular Bar

Police, fire, and ambulance crews were on the scene by 11:30am, focusing their efforts around The Buoy Belgian Bar. One local, Stephanie Jay Fox, revealed she had warned authorities earlier about a gas smell in her building before leaving home.

“I reported the smell of gas in my building before I left this morning,” said Fox on Facebook.

Bus Routes Thrown into Chaos

Stagecoach buses heading to Dover were forced onto detours via The Health Centre and Grove Road. Services coming into Folkestone were rerouted through Canterbury Road and Black Bull Road to avoid the closed street.

All Clear as Road Reopens

Thankfully, by 12:30pm, emergency teams stood down and Tontine Street reopened to traffic, bringing relief to stranded commuters and locals alike.
