Midhurst rallies behind local businesses with festive video smash! A heartwarming new short film is lighting up Midhurst this Christmas, urging residents to shop local and support their town’s traders. Created by Scafell Media, the video “Merry Christmas to All” features a colourful cast of bakers, mechanics, vets, gym bosses, bookshop owners and more, all reciting stanzas from the classic Christmas poem A Visit from St. Nicholas.
Local Businesses Star in Festive Poem
Samuel Pearson, director at Scafell Media, dreamed up the project as a festive gift to Midhurst’s community. “I wanted to make something festive for the local community,” Pearson explained. Inspired by the Christmas movie The Holiday, he spent the quiet seasonal period crafting a video to spotlight the town’s diverse business scene – no payment involved. “We just wanted to get it out the door before Christmas,” he added.
Having recently returned to Midhurst after his partner’s stint at the Cowdray Estate, Pearson was struck by the town’s resilience following last year’s devastating Angel Inn fire. The blaze forced a lengthy closure of North Street, a central shopping strip, dealing a heavy blow to local trade.
Fire’s Aftermath Still Felt by Traders
The Angel Inn fire shut down a vital retail hub, cutting footfall and leaving traders struggling to recover. Pearson said: “The fire changed things so much; every single business was affected.” His video aims to remind locals just how crucial it is to back the shops that keep Midhurst alive, especially in the run-up to Christmas.
Community Cheers On Midhurst Spirit
The response has been electric, with the video racking up 20,000 views in just two days. “It was mind-blowing,” Pearson said. “It just goes to show how many people care about this.”
The message is clear: shopping local means investing in the future of Midhurst and keeping its economy thriving. This festive film isn’t just a celebration—it’s a rallying cry to look after your town’s businesses now and all year round.
