Heathrow Tunnel Breakdown Sparks Massive M4 Tailbacks

Tunnel Trouble Triggers Gridlock

Motorists heading to Heathrow are stuck in chaos this morning after a technical fault forced the closure of the M4 Heathrow Spur Tunnel. The blockage hit the inbound carriageway to Terminals 2 and 3, snarling traffic at M4 Junction 4 (Heathrow/Uxbridge) and spilling back onto the A4 Bath Road.

Queues stretch for miles as drivers face standstill traffic on the tunnel approach. The knock-on effect is felt far beyond the M4, with traffic jams choking the roads through Sipson, Harlington, and Hayes.

Massive Diversions & Bus Chaos

Transport for London (TfL) confirmed a diversion is in place, rerouting vehicles along slower surface roads around the airport perimeter. The disruption is hammering daily commutes—bus routes 105, 111, 278, 285, A10, SL7, SL9, and U3 all face delays or rerouting.

Heathrow Warns: Leave Extra Time

Heathrow Airport urged travellers to allow plenty of extra time for journeys to Terminals 2 and 3. No reopening time has been announced yet, adding to the uncertainty on the roads.

Heathrow spokesperson: “Due to a technical issue, the Central Terminal Area tunnel for Terminals 2 and 3 is currently closed. We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologise for any disruption. Passengers are advised to use public transport and travel to Terminal 5, where they can access train services to all other terminals.”

Drivers are urged to avoid the area where possible and seek alternative routes to dodge the snarl-ups.
