Catastrophic Fire Rips Through Catford Home – Dramatic Roof Rescue
Massive Blaze Devastates Catford House
A huge fire tore through a house on Renshaw Close, Catford early yesterday morning, wrecking the entire first floor and the loft conversion. The inferno sparked a huge emergency response with eight fire engines and nearly 60 firefighters battling the flames.
Daring Rescue from the Roof
Firefighters mounted a heart-stopping rescue after a woman fled onto the house’s roof to escape the blaze. According to Station Commander Mike Watts, the woman started slipping on the pitched roof. A firefighter climbed a nine-metre ladder to secure her, while crews set up a second ladder to bring them down safely.
The woman and two others who escaped earlier were rushed to hospital. One is believed seriously injured, while the woman is being treated for smoke inhalation.
Fire Contained but Investigation Ongoing
The fire was finally under control by 9:39 AM, but crews stayed to douse smouldering hotspots. Fire investigators are on site probing the cause of the blaze.
Local Disruption and Public Appeals
Ravensbourne Park remains closed, but rail services at nearby 1 are running normally. Station Commander Watts urged locals to steer clear of the area while emergency operations continue.
The London Fire Brigade reported over 20 emergency calls for the fire, underlining community concern. Firefighters from New Cross, Beckenham, Greenwich, and Lee Green stations joined the massive effort to quell the flames.
Commander’s Praise and Safety Warning
“The quick actions of our firefighters saved a life today. This incident highlights the importance of having a clear escape plan in place and ensuring your home is equipped with working smoke alarms,” said Commander Watts.
Authorities continue investigating and urge anyone with information to come forward.
