Drug dealer caught using vulnerable man’s home as crime hub

Akram Ali, 20, from West Hampstead, Camden, has been jailed for three years at Wood Green Crown Court. He admitted to assault and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, including heroin and cocaine.

Exploiting a vulnerable victim

The court heard how Ali took over the home of a vulnerable man in a cruel form of crime known as ‘cuckooing.’ The victim was threatened and assaulted before managing to escape and alert police in January.

Drugs and danger uncovered

Police from the Central North Gangs Unit swooped on the property, arresting Ali and seizing 217 wraps of crack cocaine and 110 wraps of heroin. Officers acted quickly to shut down the operation.

Police warn of cuckooing abuse

PC Josh Pryce said: “Ali preyed on his victim’s vulnerabilities, using his home as a base for crime. Drug dealing fuels violence and misery in our communities. We hope this conviction delivers justice and helps the victim rebuild.”

“If you suspect cuckooing or know someone vulnerable, contact police immediately. We’re here to help.”

Ali was also hit with a victim surcharge of £181 as part of his sentence.
