Care Home Nursing Rates Get a 5% Boost to Ease Pressure on Residents
Government Pumps Extra Cash into NHS-Funded Nursing Care
The government has announced a 5% hike in the rate paid to care homes for NHS-funded nursing care (FNC) for 2023-2024. From 1 April 2023, the standard weekly payment per eligible resident will rise from £209.19 to £219.71. The higher rate also increases from £287.78 to £302.25.
Funding Boost to Support Thousands of Vulnerable Residents
This cash injection helps tens of thousands of care home residents, including those with learning disabilities and long-term physical or mental health conditions, receive the vital nursing care they need. Registered nurses provide essential support, using a range of specialist skills to care for these individuals.
Money to Reduce Hospital Pressures and Improve Social Care
The increased funding ensures care homes can cover nursing costs and continue delivering crucial services. It also aids hospital pressure relief by enabling quicker discharge of patients ready for social care support.
Massive Investment in Adult Social Care
- Up to £7.5 billion in extra funding over two years
- £2.8 billion available in 2023-2024
- £4.7 billion allocated for 2024-2025
This historic investment aims to strengthen the adult social care system, tackling waiting lists, low fees, and staff shortages. The government plans to publish a detailed social care reform strategy this spring, promising better care and support for the future.
