Mayday Call Sparks Major Rescue Operation
This morning, a kayaker’s quick thinking and trusty radio saved his life after he capsized in the chilly waters of the Solent. The UK Coastguard in Fareham received a desperate spoken-word mayday on Channel 16 from the stranded paddler.
Fleet on Full Alert
The Coastguard immediately scrambled the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team, and the Hamble and Calshot RNLI lifeboats. Nearby, the Royal Navy warship HMS Smiter joined the hunt for the missing kayaker.
