Joshua Mumby, 29, from Deal, Kent, was jailed after police uncovered he filmed and shared indecent images of child abuse online. Specialist officers launched their investigation in August 2025 when Mumby uploaded multiple abusive images, leading to his arrest and conviction at Canterbury Crown Court.
Disturbing Online Abuse
Mumby recorded the abuse himself and distributed it over the internet, also engaging in discussions about child sexual exploitation with other users. His vile activities were exposed after police received numerous reports tied to his online uploads.
Digital Forensics Reveals Extent
Further forensic analysis revealed over 200 indecent images stored on Mumby’s mobile phone. Initially denying the allegations and claiming manipulation of the images, Mumby later confessed to the offences during his court hearing.
Harsh Sentencing Delivered
Mumby was convicted of three counts of sexual assault and two counts of taking indecent images of children. On 30 April 2026, he received a 10-year extended sentence, including six and a half years in prison and an additional three and a half years on licence. He was also issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Life on the Sex Offenders Register
Following his release, Mumby will remain on the sex offenders register for life, imposing strict monitoring to protect the public. Detective Constable Claire Hall praised the swift and thorough police work that brought Mumby to justice.
“This is a deeply disturbing case involving the exploitation of a vulnerable young victim and the sickening behaviour of a depraved individual. The swift work of our specialist officers, whose investigation uncovered the full extent of Mumby’s crimes, should be commended,” said DC Claire Hall. “I’m pleased that this dangerous sexual predator is behind bars and that the restrictions in place at the end of his custodial sentence will serve to safeguard against future offending. I also want to send a clear message to anyone who thinks they can commit offences like this online: you cannot hide behind a screen.
