Kent Police Launch New ‘Forcer Protocol’ to Protect Missing Veterans

Kent Police has rolled out a groundbreaking scheme aimed at keeping missing veterans safe. The “Forcer Protocol” was officially launched at the Kent Police College on 30 October. This new system helps officers find veterans, reservists, and active military personnel faster when they go missing or need urgent support.

Swift Action with Vital Veteran Info

The Forcer Protocol gives police instant access to crucial details about veterans—like known vulnerabilities, risk factors, and previous places they’ve been found missing. This means officers can act quickly, potentially saving lives.

The initiative was founded by Claire Lilly, in memory of her late husband, Alan Forcer, a veteran who sadly took his own life in 2020 after worrying about his whereabouts. Since debuting in Manchester last year, the protocol has helped safely locate over 170 veterans.

Chief Inspector Gary Woodward said: “We’re proud to bring this life-saving tool to Kent. Transitioning from the armed forces is tough and sometimes overwhelming. I urge veterans, their families, and friends to fill out the form on Forcer Protocol – Safe and Found Online. It could save a life.”

How the Forcer Protocol Works

Kent is home to over 61,000 veterans. The protocol lets veterans or their families fill out a secure form with vital info that police can access only if the person goes missing.

  1. Initial Report: When someone is reported missing, call handlers ask if they’re a veteran. If yes, they access the Safe and Found Online data instantly.
  2. Investigation: Police assess risks and launch a fast search to find the missing veteran.
  3. Referral and Support: After the veteran is found, they’re referred to support services like the Single Veterans Pathway, Operation Nova, and NHS help to reduce repeat incidents.

Claire Lilly added: “A huge thank you to Kent Police for adopting the Forcer Protocol. It’s inspiring to see such dedication to real change.”

Anyone can sign up to the protocol. If a veteran goes missing in Kent, police can access their info straight away. Outside Kent, families should tell local police that the veteran’s details are on the Forcer Protocol system to speed things up.

This initiative is a vital step in safeguarding those who served the nation and ensuring they get help when they need it most.
