Kent Police were scrambled at 4.39pm on Friday 9 July 2021 after a man was spotted in the River Medway, Maidstone.

Emergency crews from Kent Fire and Rescue, Kent Search and Rescue, and South East Coast Ambulance Service rushed to the scene. Sadly, rescuers recovered the man’s body from the water.

Tragic River Dare Ends in Disaster

Eyewitnesses say the man was dared by a friend to jump into the river. He stripped off, leaving his clothes on a nearby bench, before entering the water. The chilling moment was caught on a mobile phone.

No Suspicion in Death

Kent Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be sent to the coroner for further investigation.

Heroic Rescue Efforts Come Too Late

Despite frantic attempts to save him, the man failed to resurface. Search teams later recovered his body from the river.
