Island Schools’ Roads to Get Slick New Surfaces This Summer
Key roads around Island schools are set for a much-needed makeover during the summer holidays. The resurfacing works will kick off later this month, targeting busy spots like Furrlongs, Newport; Perowne Way, Sandown; Watergate Road, Newport; Recreation Ground Road, Newport; and Wilver Road, Newport. Scheduling these upgrades during the holidays means minimal disruption for pupils, staff, and parents.
Summer Work to Avoid Term-Time Chaos
Keith Gourlay, Construction Manager at Island Roads, revealed the plan aims to dodge school-time disturbance. “Wherever practical, we schedule our work to reduce disruption. These roads are a prime example,” he said. “We try hard to steer clear of working near schools during term time to protect the school communities.”
Heads Up for Residents
Local residents will soon get details about the daytime roadworks. Clear signage will guide drivers, showing exact timings and any necessary diversions. Despite efforts to cut disruption, some inconvenience is inevitable.
“We appreciate that there will still be some disruption to local residents and thank them for their patience. We hope the whole community will notice the visible improvements once the works are complete,” added Gourlay.
All eyes will be on these roads as the community hopes for smoother drives and safer school runs come September.
