Golf Society Nets £15,000 for Hospital Boost
The Golf Preservation Society (GPS) at East Horton Golf Club, Fair Oak, has smashed its target by raising a whopping £15,000. The cash will buy vital medical gear and create a cosy family quiet room in the Head and Neck Department at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
Non-stop Fundraising Action
GPS, which picks a new charity each year, pulled out all the stops in 2015. Founding member Steve Alexander and Club Captain Malcolm Jenvey led a supercharged committee that organised a string of cracking events. These included:
- Charity quiz nights
- Intense golf challenges
- A darts marathon
- The gruelling 3 Peaks Challenge
- A solo cycle ride
- Kayaking the Solent
- Charity BBQ
- Golf day and dinner
Essential Gear Bought for Patients
With funds in hand, the committee teamed up with QA Hospital staff to buy important kit: 5 suction units, 30 nebulisers, 6 servox machines, 20 boogie boards, 3 wheelchairs, and 2 high-low couches. All designed to improve patient comfort and care.
Family Quiet Room Makeover in 2016
Plans are now underway to refurbish the Head and Neck Quiet Room, a vital space for patients’ families to find solace during treatment.
“Our Department is hugely grateful to the Golf Preservation Society for raising such an incredible amount of money. The equipment purchased will make a huge difference to the patients being treated within the Department.” — Vanessa Young, Macmillan Senior Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist, QA Hospital
