Tank Takes Over Central London Streets in Jaw-Dropping Surprise
Londoners were left stunned on Friday, September 20, when a full-sized tank rumbled through some of the capital’s most iconic spots. What looked like a wild military parade was actually an unexpected joyride after a marketing stunt was canned at the last minute.
Rolling Through London’s Landmark Hotspots
The armoured beast rolled down famous streets, including York Way, Euston Road, Great Portland Street, Marylebone High Street, and Baker Street. Not stopping there, it thundered across packed Oxford Street before hitting Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, and Oxford Circus.
One of the tank’s crew said the vehicle caused an absolute “standstill” at Oxford Circus, with crowds gawping and snapping pics. “Kids were coming up, waving at you, talking to you. Even the older people—now I know what the Queen was like,” the crew member joked.
Tanks-Alot Owner Nick Mead Behind London Tank Spectacle
The tank belongs to Tanks-Alot, owned by businessman Nick Mead. The company has made headlines before, selling military vehicles, including reportedly sending 100 tanks to Ukraine. Mead also attracted attention when he uncovered millions in hidden gold bars inside one of his tanks.
Despite causing some traffic chaos, the unexpected tank tour spread smiles and excitement through the city. After cruising landmarks like The Ritz and the BBC, the tank circled back to Euston Road, wrapping up a day Londoners won’t forget in a hurry.
Could Oxford Street Pedestrianisation Stop Future Tank Stunts?
This tank joyride comes as Mayor Sadiq Khan is pushing plans to pedestrianise Oxford Street. Such a move could eventually stop heavy vehicles like this from invading one of London’s busiest shopping streets, keeping the capital’s centre foot-friendly and free of surprises.
