Louis Theroux Prepares to Shave Head as Alopecia Worsens

British filmmaker and broadcaster Louis Theroux has opened up about his battle with alopecia, revealing plans to go for a full head shave as patchy hair loss takes hold.

“At Least I Don’t Have to Hoover” – Louis’ Dry Joke

The 54-year-old documentary legend took to Instagram to share candid snaps of his thinning hair, explaining he’s been trimming it short to hide the worst patches.

“Latest from alopecia-land. I’ve cut the hair short because I realised the longer it was the worse it looked. But it’s patchy AF and I’m basically preparing the way for a full head shave some time in the next 12 months,” he wrote.

Injecting his trademark humour, Theroux joked about embracing a bald look like his idols Stanley Tucci and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“Big glasses a la Tucci, big muscles a la Dwayne Johnson, plus a year-round tan. That’s the formula.”

He also posted a throwback pic from 1994, quipping: “The hair was always a problem, which I will have to worry about less and less as it disappears.” And with typical wit, added:

“It’s like when your house burns down. ‘At least I don’t have to hoover!’”

Fans Rally Behind Theroux

Theroux’s honesty struck a chord with fans, who flooded the comments with support and praise. Many thanked him for raising awareness about alopecia, a condition affecting people of all ages and genders.

  • “As someone who also suffers from bouts of patchy alopecia, thank you for sharing!”
  • “Hair or no hair – a true legend.”

Louis has previously shared his efforts to manage alopecia’s effects, including microblading his eyebrows and dying his hair.
