Sixty firefighters battled a fierce blaze that gutted a thatched cottage in Oxfordshire. The fire tore through the home in East Hendred, near Wantage, leaving it extensively damaged. Miraculously, the 95-year-old resident escaped without a scratch.

Firefighters Save Belongings Amid Flames

Teams rushed to rescue the owner’s belongings, moving them to a nearby garage to keep them safe from the flames. Ten fire engines from Oxfordshire and Royal Berkshire tackled the fire, with help from the South Central Ambulance Service.

House Destroyed but Fire Contained

“The main part of the house has been destroyed by the fire, however the crews have stopped the fire spreading to a small portion of the property,” said Incident Commander GM Paul Bremble.

Firefighters are expected to stay on site for hours, ensuring the blaze is fully out and the property is safe. Authorities warn the building is unstable, with some walls already collapsed, urging people to stay well clear.
