M2 Shut Both Ways After Fatal Tesla-Motorcycle Smash

The M2 motorway is closed in both directions following a deadly collision between a Tesla Model S and a Yamaha motorcycle in freezing early morning conditions. The crash happened just after 6.30am on Sunday.

Crash Scene Between Junction 4 and 5

The smash took place between Junction 4 (Gillingham / A278) and Junction 5 near Sittingbourne, close to Medway Services. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, triggering a full motorway shutdown.

Both Carriageways Sealed Off

Initially, only the London-bound carriageway was closed. But by 7.30am, Kent Police shut the coastbound side, citing the severity of the incident and the need for a specialist collision investigation.

Traffic ground to a halt as officers set up a large forensic cordon. Debris scattered across multiple lanes blocked the road completely.

Motorcycle Rider Dies at Scene

The motorcyclist suffered life-changing injuries and tragically died at the scene despite efforts from paramedics and police to save him. No updates have been released on the Tesla occupants.

Specialist Team Calls in Heavy Duty Investigation

Collision experts were dispatched for a detailed examination of the crash site to determine what went wrong. A National Highways spokesperson said:

“With emergency crews working at the scene, traffic officers closed the M2 to provide a safe working area. By 7.30am, Kent Police advised closing the eastbound carriageway due to the incident’s severity.”

Drivers Warned to Avoid Area, Expect Delays

There is no confirmed reopening time yet. Motorists between the Port of Dover and London are advised to divert via the M20. Those travelling through Medway should brace for significant delays.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and follow official diversion routes. Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are asked to contact Kent Police.
