Disaster on the M20: Chaos Hits Kent’s Coastbound Motorway
Kent’s M20 motorway has descended into chaos after Kent County Council (KCC) failed to deploy a crucial movable barrier. The coastbound carriageway was shut, sparking snarling queues and leaving thousands of HGV drivers stranded. Motorists face dangerous detours, with risks from flooding and falling trees at Junction 8.
Poor Planning Sparks Motorway Mayhem
Blame piles on KCC for “shoddy planning.” The movable barrier system, dubbed “Million,” sits unused in the M20’s central reservation. Without it, traffic has ground to a halt and frustration is boiling over.
Police had no choice but to shut the coastbound side of the motorway. They activated Operation Brock Zero to regain control, but the missing barrier means the gridlock worsens by the hour.
HGV Drivers Stuck and Motorists Diverted into Danger
Truckers are worst hit, stranded on the motorway with no way forward. Other drivers must quit at Junction 8 and brave risky alternative routes, facing hazards like falling trees and floodwaters.
Adding insult to injury, the open section of the M20 now has a 30mph speed limit, dragging out delays even further.
KCC Silent as Anger Mounts
So far, Kent County Council has stayed quiet. Commuters and truck drivers demand answers and accountability for the motorway nightmare.
For now, Kent motorists are left stuck and fuming, hoping for a quick fix to reopen the vital M20 route safely and swiftly.
