London Cop Axed After Shocking Sexual Misconduct Hearings in York
PC Rana’s Shocking Abuse of Power
PC Shasanga Rana, a London-based officer, faced a brutal three-day hearing at the PSD rooms in York from March 27 to 29. He stood accused of eight serious breaches of professional conduct, including abusing his authority, disrespecting colleagues, and engaging in discreditable behaviour.
Unwanted Touches and Lewd Messages
All allegations were proven true against Rana. He:
- Repeatedly touched a female officer without her consent — massaging her shoulders, stroking her arm, and touching her leg on three separate occasions;
- Made inappropriate comments about her weight;
- Sent another officer lewd Instagram messages twice, including one referencing a sexual act.
Gross Misconduct and Immediate Dismissal
The independent panel slammed Rana’s actions as gross misconduct and immediately booted him from the British Transport Police. They ruled his behaviour violated the dignity of the two officers and constituted deliberate, targeted sexual advances.
Senior Officer Condemns Rana’s Conduct
“Shasanga Rana showed a very concerning pattern of behaviour that is fundamentally not aligned to our BTP values,” said Detective Superintendent Pete Fulton, head of BTP’s Professional Standards Department.
“He inappropriately touched an officer and sent disgusting messages of a sexual nature to another. Thankfully, they came forward with compelling evidence, and he was quite rightly dismissed from BTP.”
“I fully support the panel’s decision in this case, and I’m pleased Shasanga Rana is no longer part of our force.”
