Major Roadworks Kick Off to Fix Dodgy Drainage and Potholes in Porchfield
Island Roads has launched a crucial upgrade on the 1.5km stretch of Bunts Hill, running from Whitehouse Cross to New Road in Porchfield. The project aims to fix drainage issues and resurface the main road badly battered by surface water and potholes.
Drainage Overhaul Gets the Green Light
The first phase focuses on ripping out the old gulley system in the middle section and installing new, more efficient drains. This will stop surface water pooling on the road, a key reason why Bunts Hill has been such a pothole hotspot for years.
Expect Roadworks and Closures
- The drainage work has already started and will close the road to through traffic, though locals can still access homes.
- Pedestrian access remains open throughout.
- Resurfacing and re-profiling of the entire 1.5km stretch will kick off around June 10 and wrap up by July 1.
- During resurfacing, a full road closure is likely, but this will happen in staged phases to ease disruption.
Island Roads Apologises for Any Hassle
“We apologise in advance for any disruption caused by the scheme,” said project manager Derek Benfield. “But fixing the drainage and resurfacing together will finally sort the root cause of the potholes on Bunts Hill. The improved road surface will be appreciated by everyone using this route – especially cyclists.”
Residents have been kept in the loop with info letters and can speak directly to Island Roads staff at the Mobile Visitor Centre visiting the area soon.
