Chaos in Portsmouth Harbour: Two Dramatic Water Rescues in One Night
Man Trapped in Paulsgrove Mud Rescued by Lifeboat
Emergency services scrambled to Portsmouth Harbour after two separate incidents rocked the waters near Port Solent late Friday night. Firefighters from Cosham, Fareham, and the Water Rescue Support Unit joined forces with a Hart Team from South Central Ambulance and two Coastguard Search and Rescue crews.
The first call came just after 10:20pm. A man was trapped in thick mud at Paulsgrove Lake, near Southampton Road’s luxury marina and housing estate. Rescue teams quickly worked to free him. Thankfully, he was successfully pulled from the mud and transferred ashore by lifeboat. South Central Ambulance Service then took over his care.
Second Rescue: Despondent Man Plucked from Portchester Waters
As if one emergency wasn’t enough, crews were immediately re-tasked to Portchester after reports of a despondent male in the water. Working alongside Hampshire Constabulary and a second Portsmouth rescue team, emergency responders pulled the man safely from the water.
Police Lead Rescue Efforts with Coastguard Assistance
A UK Coastguard spokesperson confirmed the incidents are police-led. They revealed that the UK Coastguard was called in to provide support, mobilising Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Lifeboats along with a Coastguard Rescue Team. However, the spokesperson declined to share further details.
