Firefighters are battling a massive fire at an industrial building on Eastways in Witham this evening. The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at 4:42pm. Thick smoke from the blaze has been spotted as far away as Ashingdon, causing serious concern among residents.
Firefighters Surround Giant Inferno
By 6:30pm, crews confirmed they had the fire surrounded. The building involved measures a staggering 80 metres by 50 metres, making this a huge challenge for emergency teams. Multiple fire engines and specialist vehicles remain at the scene, carefully coordinating with UK Power Networks to manage safety risks.
Eastways has been shut off to traffic amid the large-scale emergency response.
Residents Told to Stay Indoors
Nearby residents have been urged to keep windows and doors firmly shut to avoid smoke inhalation. Emergency services are also advising the public to steer clear of the area while firefighters tackle the blaze.
James Wallace, a local resident, said, “I could see the smoke rising all the way from Ashingdon.” Social media users expressed alarm at the thick, spreading smoke filling the sky.
