Blaze Breaks Out at Halland Garden Nursery – Dozens of Firefighters Battle Flames

Early Morning Fire Sparks Major Response

A massive fire erupted at a garden nursery on Eastbourne Road, Halland, early this morning. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) sprang into action after the alarm was raised at 6:34 AM on 12 April 2023. Twelve fire engines were sent racing to the scene to tackle the fierce blaze.

No Injuries Reported, But Residents Urged to Stay Safe

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far. But locals have been warned to keep doors and windows shut tight to avoid smoke inhalation. Authorities urge the public to steer clear of the area for their own safety.

Firefighters Make Progress, But Smoke Still Blankets the Area

By 8:30 AM, crews reported progress in controlling the fire, although thick smoke continued to drift around and the road remained closed. ESFRS confirmed firefighters would be battling the blaze for several more hours.

Fire Response Scaled Back as Situation Improves

At 9:30 AM, the fire service reduced their response to six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform. Despite this, the public was still advised to avoid the area while emergency teams worked to fully extinguish the fire. By 12:45 PM, only two fire engines remained on site, although smoke remained in the air.

The A22 has since reopened both ways, but drivers are advised to use alternative routes if possible. Meanwhile, the garden centre will stay closed until further notice.
