Anniversary of Tragic Baby Discovery in Willenhall

The local community remains shaken as the anniversary passes of the heartbreaking discovery of a newborn baby in Rough Hay Country Park, Willenhall. The infant was found by a passer-by around 1pm, sparking a tragic investigation that still has no answers.

Inconclusive Post Mortem and DNA Searches Hit Dead End

A post mortem revealed inconclusive results but suggested the baby had been in the water for several days. Police carried out extensive forensic work, including familial DNA testing, but failed to identify the child’s parents. Detectives are no closer to uncovering what happened to the baby boy.

Police Appeal for Help and Offer Support to Community

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood from the homicide team said:

“This case is really very sad. We’ve worked tirelessly to try and find out what happened to this little boy, but it’s disappointing we’ve been unable to get answers. We’ll always act on any new information and have today launched a fresh witness appeal in the local area.” “My thoughts are with everyone affected and the wider community deeply distressed by this tragic discovery.” “I’d like to thank all who have come forward so far – all leads have been thoroughly pursued.”

Police confirm a card and flowers were left at the scene in February but forensic checks found no clues. Officers urge anyone with information, especially those who may have left the tribute, to get in touch.

Baby’s Body Held with Care Until Family Steps Forward

West Midlands Police are working closely with the Black Country Coroner. The baby’s body is being retained respectfully in case family members come forward. Should no one claim him, police will arrange sensitive care and burial.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting log number 1963 of 20 May 2021.
