Dramatic Rescue on Isle of Wight After Woman Breaks Femur in Woodland Fall
A serious rescue mission unfolded this afternoon near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight after a woman suffered a bad fall and broke her femur. The incident happened just after 2.20pm in woodland west of Yarmouth, triggering an urgent emergency response.
Paramedics and Coastguard Called In
Paramedics and a land ambulance rushed to the scene, backed by a coastguard rescue team from Needles. With the terrain too tricky for a standard ambulance, the coastguard’s Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was scrambled to winch the injured woman from the dense woodland near Westhill Lane.
The helicopter hovered above as paramedics and coastguard crews guided the winch operator, amid bright orange smoke signals marking the area. The helicopter rescue was needed because of the severity of her broken thigh bone and additional medical complications.
Successful Airlift to Hospital
With the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance unavailable, the coastguard helicopter had to step up. The injured woman was safely lifted and flown to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, where she is now receiving treatment.
