Massive Search Underway for Vulnerable Person Missing off Hayling Island
A huge land and sea hunt is raging this morning for a “vulnerable” individual missing near Hayling Island. Coastguard crews, police, lifeboats and a rescue helicopter were scrambled late Friday night.
High-Risk Missing Person Sparkes Urgent Search
Police confirmed they are hunting for a high-risk missing person and are very worried about their safety. A UK Coastguard spokesperson said:
“Shortly after 1.45pm on Friday 17th March, teams were paged to assist Hampshire Police in searching for a vulnerable missing person in the Hayling Island area.”
Air and Sea Units Join Forces in Full-Scale Operation
The Lee on the Solent Coastguard Rescue Helicopter joined the search from above, while teams combed the shoreline and waters below. portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth RNLI lifeboat volunteers launched both inshore lifeboats to support the effort, scouring the coast alongside police and other rescue units.
“Portsmouth’s RNLI volunteers responded immediately when called by Coastguard to help locate a missing local man,” said a lifeboat spokesperson. “They worked alongside Coastguard, police, and the rescue helicopter in a thorough shoreline search.”
Police Remain Tight-Lipped
Hampshire Police have yet to release more information about the missing individual or the ongoing search. Updates are expected shortly as the rescue operation continues.
