A man in his 40s has died following a suspected gas explosion at a block of flats on Pendennis Place, Penzance. The blast ripped through one of the properties on Wednesday afternoon (23 April) at around 3.10pm, sending emergency crews rushing to the scene.

Witnesses reported a loud explosion before the man was found with critical injuries. He was swiftly rushed to Derriford Hospital but tragically passed away despite treatment. Police have informed his next of kin, who are being supported by specially trained officers.

Emergency Response and Evacuations

Fire and police teams quickly evacuated residents from nearby flats as a safety precaution. A cordon was set up around the damaged building while investigators combed the site for clues. Authorities have since lifted the cordon and confirmed there is no ongoing public safety threat.
