Firefighters have issued a stark warning after a blaze tore through half the first floor of a semi-detached house on Chelsfield Lane, Orpington.
Man Hospitalised After Escaping Smoke-Filled Home
One man managed to flee the burning building before fire crews arrived. He was rushed to hospital with smoke inhalation, treated by London Ambulance Service.
Discarded Cigarette Sparks Dangerous Fire
The London Fire Brigade’s investigation team suspects the fire was caused by careless smoking. A spokesperson urged smokers to fully stub out cigarettes, preferably in an ashtray.
“If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home, but also cost you your life,”
The Brigade was called at 8:30am and had the fire under control by 9:30am. Fire teams from Orpington and Sidcup rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze.
