Heartbreak as Seven Maplin Staff Lose Jobs on Isle of Wight
It’s the end of the road for Maplin on the Isle of Wight. Seven staff members watched their beloved store shut its doors for good today, many too upset to talk about what’s next.
Final Day Chaos
The shop’s been gutted. Leftover stock dumped in skips outside. Staff were seen smashing tills, destroying card readers, and removing hard drives — hammer in hand. “That’s it,” one near-tears employee said. “We’ve stopped trading. I’ve been here from the start. It’s heartbreaking to see it close.”
No Hope Left for Maplin
Staff held onto hope for a rescue plan but none came. “Customers have shown amazing support, but it just wasn’t meant to be,” said one worker. The large outlet joins over 200 other Maplin stores doomed when the electrical retailer went into administration back in February 2018.
Empty and Forlorn
The unit now sits empty with a sign reading: “This store is now closed, the management and staff thank you for your custom.” A spokesperson from PricewaterhouseCoopers has officially confirmed the closure.
