Speed Demon Jailed for Shocking 111mph Police Chase Crash
Billy Morrison, 20, from Barnsley, was clocked at a terrifying 111mph while being chased by police before smashing into a row of cars on the A61 near Skipton. The high-speed horror left an 80-year-old woman in one vehicle with 11 broken bones, including fractured ribs, vertebrae, and ankles. She remains in hospital, fighting to recover.
Passenger Critically Injured After 4×4 Overturns
The passenger in Morrison’s Mitsubishi Shogun 4×4 suffered serious injuries when the vehicle overturned. His injuries were so severe he has been forced to stop working. Morrison had been banned from driving just three weeks earlier but brazenly continued to hit the road.
Long List of Charges After Shocking Chase
After a thorough probe by North Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Investigation Team, Morrison faced charges including:
- Two counts of causing injury by dangerous driving
- One count of dangerous driving
- Driving while disqualified
- Driving without insurance
- Driving while impaired by drink or drugs
- Failing to provide a specimen
Initially denying he was behind the wheel, Morrison later admitted guilt and pleaded guilty to all offences. He was remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing at York Crown Court.
Judge Slams Morrison: “Complete Disregard for Lives”
The judge condemned Morrison’s “complete disregard” for other road users during what he called a “horrific series of manoeuvres.” He handed down the maximum sentence: three years and nine months in prison. Morrison was also banned from driving for nearly nine more years and will have to pass an extended driving test to regain his licence.
Detective Sergeant Kirsten Aldridge said: “Morrison showed no regard whatsoever for the lives of other road users, leaving two people with horrendous life-changing injuries.
“His attempt to lie and shift blame was cowardly and deceitful. Driving while banned might seem minor to some, but this case shows the danger disqualified drivers pose. That’s why we work tirelessly to get them off our roads.”
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the police pursuit, as is standard after crashes linked to police chases. The enquiry continues.
