Flames and Smoke Engulf Blackfen Road Property
The London Fire Brigade received nearly 30 panic calls just after 1:10pm reporting thick smoke and towering flames shooting from a building on Blackfen Road.
Video from the scene shows intense fire ripping through both ground and upper floors, with part of a neighbouring roof also alight. Around 80 firefighters have been deployed, including a 32-metre turntable ladder acting as a water tower.
🗣️ Station Commander Steve Howlett at the scene said: “This is a very visible fire which is producing a significant amount of smoke in the area. Please keep your windows and doors closed if you live nearby.”
Road Closures and Travel Havoc
- Blackfen Road is closed in both directions.
- Multiple bus routes are being diverted.
- Commuters are urged to avoid the area altogether.
Huge plumes of smoke have been spotted for miles across Southeast London, disrupting traffic and raising alarm among local residents.

The building, currently undergoing renovation, houses a shop with flats above. Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.
Thankfully, there are no reports of injuries so far, but the situation remains active and developing.
