Sadiq Khan Eyes Free Wi-Fi Across London
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, wants to roll out a city-wide free Wi-Fi network. The goal? To give Londoners and tourists seamless internet access without the hassle of constant sign-ups.
Cutting Out the Login Nightmare
While many pubs, shops, and venues already offer free Wi-Fi, users often face repeated logins. Khan’s plan would create a unified, easy-to-use network that means once you’re connected, you stay connected—simple.
Internet Access for Everyone
Khan believes connectivity is a must-have for all. The free Wi-Fi would boost tourism, speed up business deals, and support the surge in remote working London-wide.
Backing from City Hall and Big Players
Under his Digital Access for All drive, Khan has set aside £20,000 to work with City Hall, London & Partners, and key tech groups like the Wireless Broadband Alliance. Local boroughs and experienced cities will also lend their expertise to make this happen.
Building on Tube Mobile Success
This isn’t Khan’s first digital upgrade. He also brought mobile coverage to the Elizabeth Line’s central section. Currently, 20% of Tube stations have mobile service, with plans to double that by spring 2024, thanks to Transport for London (TfL).
Sadiq Khan is committed to boosting digital access and making London a truly connected city for everyone.
