National Living Wage Soars by Over £1 an Hour!
Millions of workers across the UK are celebrating a hefty pay rise as the National Living Wage shoots up from £10.42 to £11.44 per hour this week. Approved last year and unveiled by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt in November’s autumn statement, the increase means full-time workers could pocket over £1,800 more a year.
Plus, for the first time, the age threshold for claiming the National Living Wage has dropped to 21, making even more young workers eligible for a better pay packet.
Pensioners Get a Big Boost – Up to £900 More!
It’s not just workers seeing the benefits. Pensioners will also get a healthy financial lift as state pensions rise by up to £900, an 8.5% hike. Chancellor Hunt stressed the government’s commitment to the pension triple lock—ensuring increases match average earnings, inflation, or 2.5%, whichever is highest.
This move comes as a breath of fresh air for retirees struggling with the rising cost of living.
Universal Credit Claimants Benefit Too
Good news also for Universal Credit claimants. The Department for Work and Pensions is boosting payments by 6.7%, reflecting recent inflation figures. This means around 5.5 million households could see an extra £470 on average, easing financial pressure for those who need it most.
A Win for Millions Across the UK
The Department for Business and Trade estimates 2.7 million workers will directly benefit from the wage hike. Chancellor Hunt hailed the increase as a landmark step in ending low pay across the country, fulfilling a key Tory manifesto promise.
With pensions and benefits also rising, these combined financial boosts aim to improve living standards and contribute to the UK’s ongoing economic recovery.
