A vulnerable girl reported missing sparked a major police hunt in Abbey Wood – but relief came early Tuesday morning when she was found safe and well.
Police and Helicopter Join Forces in Tough Terrain
The Metropolitan Police launched an immediate search after the girl vanished on Monday. Dense woods made the operation tricky, forcing them to call in the National Police Air Service (NPAS).
A helicopter arrived just before midnight, sweeping the area from above between 11:52 PM and 12:03 AM. Although the chopper didn’t land, it played a vital part before being redirected to another emergency.

It was a bit challenging due to the wooded area, but she is now home safe and well early hours today,” said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
The quick, coordinated response by police and NPAS ended in a happy reunion, bringing huge relief to the girl’s family and local community.
