Leigh Park’s beloved bus stop cat, Missy, has sadly been put to sleep at the weekend. The 12-year-old feline was a local legend, waiting patiently at the Dunsbury Way bus stop and brightening the days of everyone catching the number 39 bus.
Farewell to Missy, the Bus Stop Cat
Locals were gutted by the news. One heartfelt tribute read: “It made my day when I used to see you at the bus stop. You loved having your ears tickled and kept me company while I waited for my bus. Forever missed, sleeping where no shadows fall.”
Tragic End After Suspected Road Accident
At first, people feared Missy had been attacked. But vets from Downland Veterinary Group confirmed her injuries matched those of a road traffic accident. The incident has left the community heartbroken.
Fundraiser Raises Over £1,400
A fundraising campaign quickly launched to cover a memorial plaque and a reward for information on the incident. It has now raised more than £1,400. However, a family spokesperson, speaking for Missy’s elderly and unwell owners, has asked for privacy during this tough time.
“Missy was like a daughter to my mum and a cherished family member. We would prefer any funds raised be donated to the PDSA,” they said. “She will be greatly missed.”
