Beloved Havant Bus Stop Cat Missy Dies After Being Hit by Car
Heartbreak has swept through Leigh Park after Missy, the famous 12-year-old ‘Bus Stop Cat’, was put to sleep following a car accident. Missy was a local legend, often seen waiting patiently at the Dunsbury Way bus stop for the number 39 bus. Her death has left the community mourning, with flowers and heartfelt notes now decorating her favourite spot.
Missy: The Cat Who Made Bus Stop Waiting Bearable
For years, Missy charmed commuters waiting at the bus stop. One tribute read, “It made my day when I used to see you at the bus stop. You always liked having your ears tickled and you were good company while I waited for my bus. Forever missed, sleeping where no shadows fall.”
Initially suspected to be attacked, vets confirmed Missy’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle. A fundraiser quickly gathered more than £1,400 to honour Missy’s memory with a plaque and to support a reward initially aimed at finding those responsible.
Owners Devastated as Community Rallies
A family member of Missy’s elderly and sick owners spoke out, saying, “I’ve spent most of the weekend consoling my parents after their tragic loss. My mother hasn’t stopped crying.”
She added, “We are grateful for the kindness and generosity shown, and for the shrine created in Missy’s memory. We would like any funds raised to go to the PDSA as a donation. Missy was like a daughter to my mum. Please respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
Police Appeal for Information
A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman revealed the police were called on January 30 following reports of criminal damage linked to Missy’s injuries. The incident is believed to have happened between January 28 and 29.
