M6 Road Workers and Schoolkids Join Forces in Big Litter Blitz

More than 40 bags of rubbish were cleared when local schoolchildren teamed up with road workers carrying out major upgrades at M6 Junction 10. Pupils from County Bridge Primary School in Walsall led the charge, inviting workers involved in the £78 million revamp project to join their community litter pick.

The major scheme will widen the roundabout from two lanes to four and replace the ageing bridges over the motorway. The work is a Highways England and Walsall Council joint venture, backed by the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership.

Team Effort Clears 42 Bags of Rubbish

Staff from Highways England, Walsall Council, and contractor John Sisk & Son volunteered alongside pupils, parents, and community officers to clean up the Anson Road play area and nearby woodland. The result? A whopping 42 bags of litter collected!

“We fully appreciate that road works, though necessary, can be disruptive for local people. We are keen to give something back to the community whenever possible,” said Highways England Project Manager David Reed.

Deputy Council Leader Councillor Andrew added: “This is a brilliant example of people coming together to make a difference in our communities. Thanks to the pupils of my old school and all partners for their enthusiasm.”

School Leads Charge to Keep Community Clean

Headteacher Rabia Patel praised the teamwork: “It was great to bring the whole school community together to tackle litter. Keeping our environment clean is everyone’s responsibility.”

The school worked closely with parents, police, council, and contractors, hoping their message sticks and local pride in a tidy area grows.
