Morton Common Bridge Shuts Down Overnight for Safety Check

Sandown’s Morton Common Bridge on the Isle of Wight has been slammed shut tonight for its annual safety inspection. The closure kicked in at 9pm and will last until 5am.

Traffic and Transport Impact

Good news for train passengers — no delays or disruptions to services are expected during the inspection. However, bus Route Three is taking a detour via Perowne Way both ways. Drivers will also need to follow local diversion routes while engineers are at work.

Bridge Staying Strong Despite Wear and Tear

Inspectors found several holes in the bridge, caused by repeated hits from heavy goods vehicles. Despite this damage, the structure remains solid and safe.
