Major Crash Closes M23 Southbound Near Gatwick – Chaos for Drivers

A huge multi-vehicle smash has shut down the M23 southbound between Junction 9 (London Gatwick Airport) and Junction 10 (Crawley). Motorists face massive delays as emergency crews scramble to clear the wreckage.

Emergency Services Rush to the Scene

Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, and South East Coast Ambulance Service rushed to the crash site earlier today. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on hand, directing traffic and helping sort the chaos.

The exact number of vehicles involved remains unclear. Reports confirm multiple cars collided, leaving debris scattered across the carriageway. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Diversion Route – Avoid the Jam!

National Highways has launched a diversion to steer drivers clear of the blockage:

  1. Exit the M23 southbound at Junction 9 onto the Gatwick Spur.
  2. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout to Junction 9A.
  3. At Airport Way Roundabout (J9A), take the 2nd exit towards North Terminal/Redhill.
  4. At the next roundabout, take the 4th exit onto the A23 London Road heading to Crawley/Redhill.
  5. At Longbridge Roundabout, take the 4th exit to join the A23 eastbound.
  6. Continue on A23 for about 4 miles to Tushmore Gyratory (A2011/A2219).
  7. Take 1st exit onto A2011 to rejoin M23 at Junction 10.

Drivers are urged to leave extra travel time and consider alternative routes where possible.
