AT&T Fixes Nationwide Call Glitch After Carrier Chaos

Millions of users breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday as AT&T confirmed it had resolved a major telecommunications glitch that blocked calls between different carriers nationwide. The firm worked closely with other networks in an urgent scramble to fix the issue.

Calls Between Networks Restored – Emergency Services Unaffected

AT&T announced the fix at around 7:45pm, thanking customers for their patience. A spokesperson said: “The interoperability issue between carriers has been resolved. We collaborated with the other carrier to find a solution and appreciate our customers’ patience during this period.”

Crucially, emergency services remained rock solid throughout the disruption. Calls to 911 and texts within the same network, like AT&T to AT&T, were untouched. FirstNet – the vital broadband network for first responders – also stayed fully operational, providing a lifeline during the chaos.

Verizon & FCC Confirm Disruptions, Customers Vent Online

Earlier, AT&T had acknowledged the problem and said it was working actively with Verizon to patch up the faults. Verizon confirmed their network was running normally but admitted some users in the Northeast and Midwest faced trouble connecting across networks.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) also stepped in, confirming it is investigating widespread service disruptions reported across multiple states.

Meanwhile, frustrated customers flooded social media, complaining about dropped outgoing calls and questioning the reliability of their services amid the turmoil.

History Repeats: Another Massive Outage Just Months After Last One

This latest snafu comes just over three months after a similar AT&T outage crippled service for roughly 50,000 customers, blamed then on a process error. Tuesday’s glitch saw a sharp spike in outage reports on tracking sites like Downdetector, confirming the broad impact.

T-Mobile, itself unaffected, flagged potential knock-on issues for its customers trying to reach disrupted networks.

As telecom firms close ranks and restore normal service, this mess highlights the urgent need for stronger infrastructure and better industry cooperation to prevent future nationwide blackouts.
