Newport library to get special fencing to tackle anti-social behaviour
Newport’s Lord Louis Library is getting a sleek new fence to tackle rising anti-social behaviour. The fencing, designed to fit its leafy parkside setting, aims to curb trouble around the library, bus station, and nearby Church Litten.
Temporary fencing installed amid consultation
The move follows safety upgrades, including brighter lighting, after more than 900 locals fed back during the ‘Shaping Newport’ regeneration consultations. While the final design hasn’t been signed off yet, temporary fencing has been erected to keep the peace for now.
Library boss promises sensitive but secure solution
“We want to reassure people the fencing is just a short-term measure while we finalise something which combines sensitivity to the location, next to Church Litten park, with an element of security,” said Rob Jones, library service manager.
Rob Jones highlighted that anti-social behaviour in the area has surged recently. “We hope this approach will help preserve it as a peaceful spot for people to enjoy now and in the future.”
Permanent fencing to be installed by April
If the temporary fencing proves successful, the permanent, carefully designed barriers could be in place by April. This is the latest step aimed at protecting Newport’s community spaces from disruption and keeping them welcoming for all.
