New Engine Drama Hits Boeing’s 777-9 Jet

Boeing has hit another snag with the GE9X engines powering its delayed 777-9 aircraft. A fresh durability problem showed up during a recent inspection, adding to the jet’s mounting technical troubles.

Inspection Launched but Flight Tests Carry On

The issue surfaced during Boeing’s full-year earnings call. The aerospace giant is working closely with GE Aerospace, which has rolled out an on-wing inspection programme while engineers hunt for the root cause and devise fixes. Boeing stayed tight-lipped on the exact parts affected but reassured that certification flight tests are continuing without a hitch.

CEO Vows 2027 Launch Still On Track

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg insists the glitch won’t delay the 777-9’s long-awaited debut, still set for 2027. The superjumbo was originally due to soar in 2020 but has been repeatedly held back by certification problems and technical setbacks.
