A stretch of the A201 New Kent Road is closed both ways this morning following a serious crash near Elephant and Castle. The smash happened between A3 Newington Causeway and Meadow Row, triggering a full emergency response.
Major Traffic Chaos As TfL Diverts Buses
Transport for London (TfL) confirmed the road shut to all vehicles while accident investigators work at the scene. Multiple bus routes are being diverted, including 1, 53, 63, 172, 188, 363, 415, 453, and night buses N1, N53, and N63.
“Due to a serious incident on New Kent Road, the road is closed in both directions between Newington Causeway and Meadow Row. Diversions are in place for multiple bus routes, and drivers are advised to avoid the area,” a TfL spokesperson said.
Traffic Build-Up and Delays Expected
Drivers are urged to find alternative routes as heavy congestion builds up around Elephant and Castle roundabout and Borough Road. Emergency services remain on site, but no details have been released about the number of vehicles involved or any injuries.
